Kent Grand Plus 8-Litre Mineral RO + UV/UF with TDS Controller Water Purifier

Kent Grand Plus 8-Litre Mineral RO + UV/UF with TDS Controller Water Purifier

This year, we searched all over the place for a complete water purifying solution in India. Let's just say the journey wasn't easy. These days there are too many water purifiers out there offering too little.

The Kent Grand Plus 8-Litre Mineral RO + UV/UF with TDS Controller Water Purifier is not one of them.

This is without a doubt, the best Water Purifier in India of 2018. Let's begin with a look at what this powerhouse has to offer.

So many (powerful) filters

The first thing we noticed was the huge number of filtration technologies that Kent has incorporated in their product. The Kent Grand Plus 8-Litre Mineral RO + UV/UF with TDS Controller Water Purifier includes, like the name suggests:

  • RO
Kent is known for having introduced RO technology to India. As expected, they make use of the popular Fimtec membrane that does a great job of separating sediments and other dissolved particles from the water.
There's also an activated carbon filter that does a pretty good job removing chlorine and odor, so that's a welcome addition.
  • UV
An 11 watt Ultraviolet lamp is used to supposedly kill germs and other microorganisms.
This is a strong lamp so rest assured you won't be falling sick anytime soon from drinking the purified water.
  • UF
In most cases, we'd say RO+UV is all that you need. But Kent's gone one step further and added another layer of purification just to make sure.
As per them, this is useful for getting rid of some bacteria and cysts as well, so alright then.
  • TDS controller
Perhaps our favorite part of this product, the TDS controller automatically ensures that some of the minerals remain in the water. This is noticeable by just how tasty the water is.
Our problem with other water purifiers was that the water we get at the end just isn't enjoyable enough to drink. It's also a fact that regular RO water purifiers remove all the essential minerals that takes away the benefits of drinking water.

But this could all be a gimmick. Just adding a bunch of filtration tech doesn't mean the water will be pure or taste good.

To check, we did a TDS test using a sample of hard water (~500ppm). We were amazed to see a massive difference in the levels. The purified water stood around 40ppm TDS!

The water tasted great, too. Almost like the bottled water you can buy in the market.

8 litres of water - but how much is wasted?

The Kent Grand Plus 8-Litre Mineral RO + UV/UF with TDS Controller Water Purifier has a capacity of 8 litres! That's a whole day's worth of water for the family.

But how much of this is wasted? Unfortunately, being very effective at purifying water doesn't come without a cost.

You're going to have as much high TDS waste water as you'll have pure water to drink. So, about 8 litres of waste water.

This shouldn't always be an issue, if you can re-purpose the water for other things.

We used our waste water to clean the floors (very effective in the washroom). We wouldn't recommend it for kitchen use though, so avoid washing your dishes with this.

Food grade plastic!

This one's a given. We only recommend that you use water purifiers lined with food grade plastic to avoid falling ill.

Thankfully, Kent Grand Plus 8-Litre Mineral RO + UV/UF with TDS Controller Water Purifier has a food-grade plastic container to house the water. The quality looks cheap though, but we had no issues with our drinking water. Looks can be deceiving after all.

Few issues..

The Kent Grand Plus 8-Litre Mineral RO + UV/UF with TDS Controller Water Purifier may be the best we reviewed in 2018. But as always, there were some issues that we needed you to know before you make a purchase.

For one, the storage tank could not be removed. This may be asking for too much, but it would have been nice to have a modular tank. Cleaning and maintenance would be so much easier then.

With all the underlying filtration technologies, it is no wonder that this device easily eats up 60 Watts of power. Not everyone will be happy paying the bills for this, us included.

Finally, the water purifier comes with 1 year warranty on the parts but only 6 months on the filter. We'd suggest you keep this in mind while purchasing the device. After the warranty period, maintenance costs can be huge. This shouldn't be a problem if you follow our maintenance checklist and take good care of the water purifier.

Our Verdict: Kent Grand Plus 8-Litre Mineral RO + UV/UF with TDS Controller Water Purifier - Most Recommended

Despite the few shortcomings, we'd recommend the Kent Grand Plus 8-Litre Mineral RO + UV/UF with TDS Controller Water Purifier as a solid purchase for your home or office.

It's guaranteed to give you the purest drinking water this year. To your health and wellness!
